When things go wrong in class

To be a teacher is something amazing and special, so when we are teaching, we just want things to go perfectly well because we are trying to do our best. Also, we are trying to teach in a perfect way, because we want our students learn as much as possible.

But when we are teaching, sometimes things are not working in the better way because we have to face different situations in the process and this situations can make us lost the class control, and we have to be able to do something inmediately to get back the control.

Class out of control

Some situations that can make us lose class control could be:

1- We have extra time.

2- An internal disturbance.

3- An external disturbance.

4- Class is out of control.

5. The activities are too long, too difficult or not working as we want.

One situation could be when we are working in some activity. Well, as we know, we have to plan the class before and try to set up an specific time for the activity develop. But it happens that when we are developing the activity, we may take more time than the stablish before, and that can make the activity bored for students, and when they are bored, they do not want to work anymore. We can  lose their attention span, so we need to do something to get back their attention, we have to change the activity, or if we need the students finish the activity, we need to improvise something to make the activity more interesting. When I was teaching, I had a problem. My students started to run around the classroom and play because the activity became too long, and also became bored for them, so I took a desicion and I told them "ok, we are going to change the way to make this activity". but the point was that they didn't want to work in the same activity anymore, so I told them "ok we are going to continue tomorrow", and I started to work in another thing.

In Chapter 8, there are tips to help us to work better. When I faced the problem of "The activity is too long", I tried to solved it in different ways, but just one work for me. I chose the tip of "Asking to finish it as homework" and it worked.

As a conclusion, we have to be ready because sometimes we are going to face a lot of problems when we are teaching, and things are going to go wrong in class no matter if we are good teachers, problems are going to be there, just we have to inteligent to think about solutions.
